THE RESEARCHERS AT GenealogyGenius.com

Many wise folk counsel career seekers to find what they love most and then find a way to do it!  Having been an engineer by training and a successful entrepreneur running my own technical sales organization for more than 25 years, I long ago realized that the things I love to do are those that require an exceptional analytical aptitude, great attention to detail, and outstanding problem solving skills. If you can throw in a bit of puzzlement and mystery requiring serious detective work, so much the better!  Many have told me throughout my career that I thrive on the “thrill of the chase”. Hence, as I contemplated a career change a few years back, I realized these were all the reasons genealogy has long been a personal passion for me and the beginnings of an amazing new avocation was born. I have been researching my own and my wife’s families for more than 20 years and have amassed more than 3,200 ancestors and their histories in my personal database. I have learned I love the challenge of discovering, collecting, analyzing and building a family tree – be it my own or someone else’s. Hence, the origin of “GenealogyGenius.com”.

I also enjoy developing genealogy forms in Word format that are designed to be filled out by the user on their computer.  This form design capability tied in with web design has shown me that I have another talent and will expand on it by making this web site a source for genealogy forms, information and links to other web sites.

My experience includes: Federal and state census searches and compilation; marriage, divorce, death, birth, probate and property transfer record searches at county clerks and register of deeds offices throughout Southeast and mid-Michigan; extensive research at many of the well-known genealogical collections in SE Michigan, including the Detroit Burton Historical Library, University of Michigan Bentley Historical Library and Clements Library in Ann Arbor, State of Michigan Historical Library and Archives in Lansing along with individual county historical and genealogical societies, and LDS libraries; digital photography, including digitization of old documents and family photographs and tombstones; creation and copywriting of downloadable U.S. Census forms in MS Word format, making them available at no cost and easily usable by the average researcher.

My name is Al Wakenhut and I am a life-long Michigan resident. I am a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the Western Wayne County Genealogical Society and the Genealogical Society of Washtenaw County. I research in the following Michigan Counties: Clinton, Eaton, Genesee, Ingham, Ionia, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Shiawassee, Washtenaw and Wayne, but am more than willing to expand my horizons if your search needs are outside those boundaries.   So please send me an email or call to present me with your challenge.  Email GenealogyGenius.com  You will not be put on a mailing list and your email address will not be given to any third party. Your confidentiality is of the utmost importance to us.

My Associates are:

Janice Fuller who lives in Lansing, Michigan, has a unique ability to decipher the wonderful handwriting found in census and other old records.  I frequently send her a picture or a link to a record when I can't make out the names or words.  She also has a keen analytical mind and enjoys solving problems, which are key assets for a genealogist.  Another of her many talents is finding obituaries and other interesting items in old newspapers.

Janice is available to do research at the Library of Michigan Genealogical Collection and State Archives, as well as surrounding counties, i.e., Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Ionia and Shiawassee.

Carol Lusk lives in Ontario, Canada and has proven to be a real asset when it comes to figuring out genealogy puzzles.  She loves to spend time at her local genealogy library and has a knack for taking a whole lot of unconnected tidbits of information and putting them together into a question of what if?  She has helped us break through several brick walls and would love to help you do the same.

The three of us offer you a truly unique combination of talents, and we all love to research and brainstorm the data we have found so that we can know where to look next for more information.  We look forward to helping you solve your genealogy problems in Michigan and Ontario, Canada.
