DEATH RECORDS

Burton Library, Detroit Public Library has a micro-fiche file of death record info from 1918 to about 1970.  Info displayed is 1st & last name, death cert. #, sex, date of death, etc.  These files are free but do not contain the actual death certificate.  Only deaths in the City of Detroit are included.

Instructions to order a death certificate from City of Detroit:  The Detroit Health Department, Vital Records Division, Herman Kiefer Health Complex, 1151 Taylor (zip 48202-1732) near the John C. Lodge expressway. The phone numbers are 313-876-4049 and 313-876-4133. Person must have died in Wayne County, Michigan. Cost is $17.00. Call first before ordering. Hours are 8 - 4pm Eastern time SHARP Mon - Fri. FREE parking. Cash, check, money order, or credit card is accepted. A walk-in service is available. Public browsing of the records is not permitted.

To order a death cert. for anyone who died in Wayne County excluding Detroit.  Cost is $22.00 [check web site before ordering].
